Anne L. Forbes' book traces the rise of the Gordons, who controlled vast areas of
the north, to their zenith in the person of George Gordon, 4th Earl of Huntly, true
"Cock of the North" and Chancellor of Scotland — that is until it all went
wrong! It contains the parallel biographies of four of his sons and two of his daughters.
Anne will give a presentation revealing the people and places of importance to the
family. She will show slides and sign copies of her book.

Anne L. Forbes was a primary teacher in London, Kenya, and the North-East
of Scotland before concentrating on her writing. Following her degree in History,
she taught the subject to International "A" level in Zimbabwe, and then again in
Kenya with English to GCSE level. She wrote two site-specific plays on the subject
of the Gordons of Huntly, with the aim of having them performed in Huntly Castle
during the next Gordon clan gathering. She has had several articles published in
magazines, but this is her first book. It is published by John Donald, the academic
imprint of Birlinn in Edinburgh.
