Robert Ramsay launches his new book of poems Driving Back (Blue Salt Publishing), collected over the last five years: poems of the land, of childhood, love and the male menopause, of his experiences as a farmer in Scotland and as an engineer and holiday maker in West Africa.

Tonight is also the Aberdeen launch of Olivia McMahon's novel Love as a Foreign Language, the story of a woman teacher of English as a foreign language in an Aberdeen language school, teaching mainly employees of the locally based oil company Termoil.

Musical interludes will be provided by Morag Skene and Tom Dailly.

Robert Ramsay

Robert Ramsay has been writing poetry since he stumbled on its therapeutic effect in the 1990s. From his childhood on the land he went to engineering, which took him to Nigeria. He returned to Angus, to farming, in 1974, surrendered to his sons in 2000. He has been scribbling since.

Olivia McMahon

Olivia McMahon's novel Love as a Foreign Language is based (partly) on her long and varied experience teaching English as a Foreign Language. A second novel about a young hairdresser in Paris is based on no (hairdressing) experience at all. Her collection of poems Domestic Verses published locally by Koo Press is all her own.

Morag Skene

Morag Skene is a North-East quine and is passionate about the arts. As part of her work as a carer she directs the Willowbank All Stars and Showtime groups and spends her free time involved with the Lemon Tree Writers, Wordfringe Festival Players, WAC (Writers and Actors Collaboration), Cruden Bay Panto, or doing the odd bit of Aiberdeen writing, as she calls it, and singing. She is delighted to be part of the launch of Robert's wonderful book of poems and wishes him every success.

Tom Dailly

Tom Dailly is a singer and songwriter of folk, country, rock n roll and even love songs in Lallans — whichever way inspiration strikes him.
